Another year has flown by again so quickly and its time to put pen to paper.
We left Brussels in the Spring and headed to Holland on the boat. We had a very relaxed summer staying in places we knew and liked and also visiting new places. We went on a new canal in the east of Holland which arrives at the German border. We had a quick trip to Haren in Germany before returning to Holland. We met lots of new people on our travels, all of whom have the same passion for boating as we do. Having renewed our batteries over the winter, we were able to stay on moorings in ‘the wild’ without any facilities. I love these moorings as they are so peaceful and there is always lots of new wildlife to see. I always have a supply of stale bread to hand to feed the ducks!
We also like to stop on moorings in the centre of small towns like Weesp. We try to arrive in time for the weekly markets, where we found this fish stall selling an enormous Halibut. We took home a small slice for dinner, which was delicious.
In April we had a day trip to Amsterdam, to visit the recently reopened Rijksmuseum. We try to take in some culture on our travels.
This year has seen our first attempt at having a garden on board. We managed to grow fresh lettuce, spring onions and tomatoes for our salads, as well as lots of fresh herbs. We even managed to grow a few strawberries! Next year we will try and increase the produce.
We arrived back in Brussels in October, where it was nice to catch up with our friends here. It is also easy to get to England and Ireland from here, so that we see the family over the winter.
Next year we are planning to spend the summer in Holland again. At least my Dutch is improving a bit!!
